True Charity

Freemasonry itself is not a charity, nor does it have as its main purpose charitable giving. This is but one expression of its true spirit.
  • Charity needs or requires an understanding of the other person's position. .    It is a relief of discomfort, physical or psychological.
  • It could be relieving stress by providing positive support.
  • It could be guidance without being judgmental or critical.
  • Compassion and a sympathetic ear may be required.
  • Kindness, forgiveness and leniency in judging others.
  • Charity begins at home and we should be doing more to help and encourage our own in negotiating the potholes of life. Encourage the spirit of friendship and mutual support among members.
  • Charity is receiving and sharing. It requires that you first have something to share. Find out if the intended recipient wants or needs that which you wish to share. Then share it-willingly.
  • What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us, what we have done for others will remain with them for their lifetime.
  • Be tolerant of our Brethrens' ideas, suggestions and desire to improve the Craft.
  • When it comes to your time to give, pass it forward not backward.
One often thinks of the charitable philanthropist who doles out 'barrows of cash. True charity is giving anything knowing that the cameras are not there to record it.
